Courtyard Osaka Honmachi Review

Looking for a Comfortable Hotel in Osaka? Japanese-Style Bath

If you’re planning a trip to Osaka, choosing the right hotel can make a big difference.

Location, room comfort, transportation, and price are all important, especially when visiting Japan for the first time.

During a trip to Osaka and Kyoto in late 2019, we stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Osaka Honmachi, which had opened just a few months earlier.

Here’s what our stay was like, along with some useful tips for international visitors.

Location – Just One Minute from the Subway

One of the biggest advantages of Courtyard Osaka Honmachi is its location.

The hotel is approximately a one-minute walk from Sakaisuji-Hommachi Station on the Osaka Metro.

This makes it a convenient base for exploring Osaka.

Popular areas such as Shinsaibashi, Namba, and Umeda are accessible by subway, and Shin-Osaka Station provides connections to Kyoto and Tokyo via the Shinkansen.

For visitors planning to explore both Osaka and Kyoto, staying near a subway station is particularly useful.

Our Room – Modern, Functional, and Comfortable

We stayed in a king room on the fifth floor.

Since the hotel had opened only two months before our visit, everything felt fresh and clean.

The room had a modern, functional design.

One feature I particularly liked was the daybed beside the window, with storage space underneath.

The view from our corner room wasn’t especially impressive, but the room itself was comfortable.

The wall-mounted television also helped make the room feel more spacious.

An Interesting Space-Saving Design

One unusual feature was the door arrangement.

The closet door also served as the entrance to the bathroom area.

It was a clever use of space, although opening the closet fully could make access to the bathroom a little awkward.

This kind of compact design is something you may notice in Japanese city hotels.

A Japanese-Style Bathroom

For international visitors, one of the most interesting features of our room was the bathroom.

Unlike many Western hotel bathrooms, the bathtub and shower area were combined in a separate wet-room space.

There was even a small bathing stool.

This layout is similar to bathrooms found in Japanese homes.

How to Use a Japanese-Style Bathroom

In a traditional Japanese bathing routine, you wash and rinse your body outside the bathtub.

The bathtub is primarily for soaking and relaxing.

This is different from the typical Western arrangement, where you often shower while standing inside the bathtub.

Our room also had a glass partition between the bathroom and bedroom, with a blind for privacy.

A Public Bath Inside the Hotel

Another distinctive feature was the hotel’s public bath.

In Japan, communal bathing facilities are common in traditional inns and hot spring resorts, but they’re also available at some modern city hotels.

Courtyard Osaka Honmachi has a public bath with an open-air bathing area.

During our stay, the bathing space felt relatively compact rather than particularly luxurious.

Still, it was an interesting facility to find in a Marriott-branded city hotel.

A Tip for First-Time Visitors

Japanese public baths generally have separate bathing areas for men and women.

Guests are expected to wash before entering the shared bath, and swimwear is generally not worn.

If you’re unfamiliar with Japanese bathing etiquette, check the hotel’s instructions before using the facility.

Room Amenities and Marriott Elite Benefits

Our room had bathrobes, slippers, and a selection of drinks.

We particularly appreciated the Nespresso coffee and TWG tea provided during our stay.

At the time, we also held Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status.

Although the standard check-in time was 3:00 PM, we arrived around 11:30 AM because I wasn’t feeling well.

Fortunately, the hotel was able to let us check in early.

That was a welcome surprise!

However, early check-in is subject to availability and should never be assumed.

We also had access to a small lounge-style space offering drinks and packaged snacks as an elite benefit.

There wasn’t a full executive lounge with an extensive food selection.

These details describe our 2019 stay; current amenities and elite benefits should be confirmed directly with the hotel.

Is Courtyard Osaka Honmachi a Good Choice for International Visitors?

Based on our experience, the hotel’s strongest points were its convenient location and practical room design.

The Japanese-style bathroom and public bath also offered something different from a typical international chain hotel.

There were a few limitations.

The room view wasn’t particularly memorable, and the public bath was smaller than we had expected.

However, the hotel was clean, functional, and easy to reach from the subway.

For visitors who want a familiar international hotel brand while experiencing a few Japanese-style amenities, it’s an option worth considering.

Final Thoughts

Courtyard Osaka Honmachi was a comfortable base for our Osaka and Kyoto trip.

What I remember most is the convenient subway access, the Japanese-style bathroom, and our successful Best Rate Guarantee claim.

If you’re planning a visit to Osaka, compare hotel locations carefully and check the official Marriott website before booking.

And if you find a lower eligible rate elsewhere, don’t forget to look into the Best Rate Guarantee.

A little research before your trip could help you save money for more experiences in Japan!

Editor’s note: This is a retrospective review of a stay in late 2019. Historical room prices have been intentionally omitted. Current room rates, amenities, and booking conditions should be checked directly with the hotel.
